Adsense Earnings Hold Steady

Adsense earnings for me have remained fairly steady in the last 3 or 4 months. In order to keep the money moving, I’ve had to work a bit harder and smarter then I used to in the past, but overall the efforts have kept me from going down too bad. Google announced results that indicated that overall their revenues are remaining decent. Compared to other advertising arenas, they’re still golden.

As I look at many blogs, I see the a lot of “vertical ad network” ads gone. These are the types of ads that people buy in good times but ditch when times get tough and they need measurable results. I’m sure third tier companies that sell ads are hurting bad, as more and more websites demand accountability for their ad campaigns.

With ad sales plummeting, it forces people to work harder for less money. The companies that can cut expenses, stay lean, and keep on selling ads will make money. But the thousands of bloggers who were attracted to niches due to the promises of vertical network fortunes will dry up. So what? People who know that somewhere someone must sell a product to make money will continue to earn more than their share.

I see informational websites that really lack focus getting hammered more than niche blogs that are designed around products. The companies that are still selling products will be happy to but traffic. It’s only the places with marginal business models who will cut their ads dramatically.

Recession causes “flight to quality” in online advertising

More than ever, people want to buy ads that work. No company can afford to spend too much money without seeing a return. There are no investors left willing to hand millions of dollars to companies without seeing a return these days.

I see less competition out there if the current ad conditions prevail. And without “bubble economics” at work, internet marketing could prove even more important to the overall economy. With strong, lean players in the search space, 2009 will be a great year.

For Google, there doesn’t seem to be any real sense of danger at the company. They’ve cut expenses, frozen hiring, and canceled non-profitable projects they were involved in. They still expect to sell more ads this year than last. If webmasters keep pace with them, or do better than they do at acquiring traffic, the money should remain solid.
