Google And Yahoo Teaming Back Up Could Be A Good Thing
June 17, 2008 – 3:59 pmGoogle and Yahoo used to have a very close relationship when it came to search, and it appears the two companies may be heading back in that direction after the failed Yahoo/MSN merger. The more I’ve thought about it, the more I think the deal will probably be good for the average Adsense publisher.
Not so long ago Google used to handle the search for Yahoo and that has one obvious benefit for people like me who get most of their traffic from Google. It meant you would also get people in from the Yahoo portal for the same rankings. In most cases, this should mean more traffic for the average website that already ranks well in Google.
You won’t have to adjust anything. Just sit back and collect the extra cash. Further, obviously the consolidation between these rivals also means that the cost of advertising will likely go up. If Google pays out the same amount as always (unknown) on a larger amount of revenue, it stands to reason we’ll all be getting paid more.
Obviously a lot of details have to still be worked out in the deal, but it will probably go through quickly enough. This could end up being a shot in the arm for revenues. Or at least we can hope.
