Adsense Earnings Plateaus

Let’s take a loot a “Adsense Earnings Plateaus” today. The idea is simple: like so many other human activities, publishing pages has a limit. Of course since we’re dealing with Google, we have no idea where the limit actually lies. Google operates much like a “black box”. You aren’t sure exactly what makes them go, but you can observe what happens. If your earnings are stuck, dealing with a black box can become frustrating.

Whenever someone’s earnings drop, it’s not uncommon for that person to blame themselves and determine what they’re doing wrong. It makes sense to think this way, but it’s not necessarily productive. Many changes to Adsense earnings are external to our efforts as publishers. Without any type of transparency, we’re forced to wonder if we’re completely to blame.

So what can we examine to determine where the trouble lays?

1) The amount of page views. Obviously if your ad is being displayed on less pages, it will affect earnings negatively. If your page view are down, you need to improve traffic.

2) The amount of CPM. If your CPM is lower it could mean advertisers are paying less and/or the people who click don’t perform well. There is less you can do in this situation.

3) Your CTR. Again, low CTR usually means people aren’t interested in the ads. That is more of a “targeting” issue than anything else. You can always try and tweak your on-page content to see if it produces better, but there’s no guarantee this will be a good use of your time. Low CTR could indicate a problem on Google’s end.

There’s no guarantee you’ll be able to find an answer. That’s the whole rub with being an Adsense publisher. No matter what you find, it could be pure speculation, and if held as an idea too dearly, could prove detrimental to your positive attitude, which is most important of all.
