A Lot Of Internet Marketing Is Personal Marketing

The web is a great place for automation. When you start a website, you can easily envision how huge of a money making operation it will be. But you still have to get the word out, and try and market your website to everyone on the internet. It’s not easy to do, because the Web is a vast place, filled with hundreds of millions of functioning websites, with many being on the exact same subject. Unless you have deep pockets, or lots of friends in the right places, you won’t be able to launch big enough to catch everyone’s attention.
This isn’t a message of doom, just a statement of facts. Big entities control the internet, the same way they control access in many other ways in the real world. Money talks, and bullshit walks. So if you plan on succeeding, you will have to be very personal in your marketing. This is true, as far as I’m concerned, whether you sell a product or your website is your product. People have to get to know the webmaster a bit, at least on some level.
For small niches, personal marketing is all you have. The SEO niche is a prime example. The people who are well known as SEOs have marketed themselves extensively, and their websites are an extension of that marketing. People get to know their personalities and have faith in the products or services they purchase for them.
The combination of using internet marketing to bring in new leads, then using personal marketing to close the leads, and finally customer service to bond the relationship is effective. Any small web business can extend sales by paying careful attention to their customers, where they’re coming from, and make sure to open a line of communication with them.
If you remain completely anonymous, you might just be cutting off the sales from potential sources that shouldn’t be ignored. You don’t have to spend all day courting any type of “fame” either, just make sure to interject a bit of personality into your website.
