Vicious Google Update Ends

If you’re like me, you’ve been noticing some sever flux in Google for the last month or so. It looks like the vicious updating is over. I hate to say it, but the same websites I have that are always affected by “Google Flux” took a beating, but the worst really does appear to be over.

My personal opinion, although not an in depth analysis, is that Google somehow had to integrate their DoubleClick Acquisition into their network. They many have even merged data from DoubleClick into their data analysis. Of course they aren’t really saying, and it doesn’t really matter. It appears that, like in the case in past updates, the afflicted websites have either started recovering, or have recovered. I know longer get too emotional about such events, because I have enough websites performing on enough fronts to weather the storm for a few beatings.

That said, I still feel a little sad when top money earners go in the tube! Who wouldn’t? At this stage I am actually optimistic that the latest changes will be good. I’m sure Google will be phasing in more CPM ads as the results of the DoubleClick purchase. Plus, I can already see what appear to be larger corporate sponsors on most pages.

The main way to deal with these Google updates is to be diversified. As corny as “don’t keep all your eggs in one basket” sounds, it is gospel as it relates to for-profit websites.

2 Thoughts on “Vicious Google Update Ends

  1. I think they did more than integrate Doubleclick, if they really did. They rolled out some user interface changes and it seems to me that their trust filtering was tightened.

There will probably new a new link building frenzy over the next couple of months as people struggle to regain their lost search visibility.

This was not a good (“we cannot confirm its an”) update from Google.

  2. Michael, I think you’re right. For someone like me, playing mainly with long tail, these updates aren’t too drastic. But I can see how people relying on one or two static sites get wiped out on these deals.

I think the integration DoubleClick (if it happened), will be good for the Adsense program.
