Focusing On Search Engine Results

It’s easy to focus most of your time on search engine results when you’re attempting to build traffic. The search engines remain the best overall source of traffic, that websites really cannot live without. In the end, the traffic you get from search engines will be extremely important to you. But one thing I’ve noticed as the years have rolled on is that the more you focus on results, the tougher it might be to get them.

Obsession can’t help

There is no reason to become obsessed. If you do the “right things”, or at least take the steps that you think are right, that should be enough. You can’t nurse the SERPs along, and many days you can’t force them to conform to your will. There are probably one hundred things that would help your web business more than staring at your stats and complaining about the same old things.

If you find that old techniques aren’t working anymore, you can’t really be surprised. Everyone knows that Google is always tweaking their index, and they are one company that loves to shake things up. If you fall a number of places in the rankings, you have to admit, it’s almost natural. I’m not saying to be complacent, but there’s no need to stress yourself out and give yourself health problems. Life is too short to cry about Google or any other third party online.

What I have found works more than anything else over the years is the relentless diversification of traffic sources and revenue streams. Sure, it pays to work on anything that has traditionally returned value you to you in the past. But it doesn’t pay to force things. If you can’t go over a certain obstacle, try going around it. If you have been around internet marketing for a few years you probably have more than one site. If one site droops, then spend time working one that is in an upswing. Overall, this may help insulate you from severe financial damage.

Whether your results are up or down in search results, there is still a ton of work that needs to be done in order to be successful online. Devoting time to multiple facets of your online business will help your business grow in ways you might not have expected.

  3. Excellent point you make. One of the most important thing we need to do as online marketers is make sure we are diversified in revenue streams.
