Major Upheavals Continue In Google

The Google Index has been rocky lately. Normally I try to ignore Google and their fluctuations as much as I can. But I’m only human, and lately I can’t help but notice some major flux. Especially noteworthy is the huge variance between local search and all of the many Google dot something domains out there. A guy in Germany might see a SERP in position 12 and someone in Thailand may see it in position 60.
If I had to speculate, I’d say Google is making some pretty fundamental changes to their index. I even have a feeling it may be related to infrastructure. But, as with all things Google, speculation is just that. Truthfully, it doesn’t matter. In the end, Google, after much fluxing, generally returns to a relatively baseline position. At least they have in the past.
When you watch Google gyrate wildly, you have to consider other traffic sources, too. The thought that Google can de-index you should be at the forefront of every webmaster’s mind.
I’m keeping my eye out, despite the fact I’m also ignoring it as much as I can
Anyone else out there noticing some pretty major changes in the last few weeks?

What I have noticed is that with a new site I launched a couple of months ago, about 55% of the traffic is coming from Google, with virtually nothing coming from other search engines. The remaining 45% is made up of either direct traffic or referrals.
I’m assuming that if I keep plugging away with my SEO, etc, traffic will start to arrive from the likes of MSN and Yahoo.

John,
The traffic from those websites will come, but it pales in comparison to Google anyway. Focus on Google and the rest of the results will follow.
