If you want to make money online, you need to understand that the “keyword category” of your website will be one of the strongest determining factors you’ll run into. There’s no way around it. Some categories will have tons of traffic, but you won’t be able to monetize it worth a damn. Other categories will have very little traffic, but will pay a ton. You have to find keyword categories that offer a sufficient amount of traffic and a generous CPM. If you do that, you just discovered the Holy Grail of earning money online.
Not all keyword are created equal
If your keywords are about something that 1) sells online and 2) is at least relatively expensive, you stand to gain a good bit of money. If your keyword category doesn’t represent either of these, you may be holding out a tin can begging for pennies.
Characteristics of money keywords
- They are searched frequently
- They have a mass market
- It is an item that is sold “online” as well as off
- There are ample advertisers waiting to purchase keywords and bidding them up
The “hotter” your keywords, the better. But don’t forget “hot” products can get cool in a hurry. Be aware: the keywords that lead people to your website will be constantly evolving, and you have to embrace change to stay ahead of your surfers.
Don’t be afraid to innovate and adapt. But remember, someone somewhere must be willing to pay for ads if you plan on making money by selling them.
