Google has been rolling out new advertising options frequently, and it’s our job as intrepid webmasters to keep up with the advances. I’ve been experimenting with Google for Mobile, Google Referrals 2.0, and even Video Units, to see where they fit in my online offerings. So far I haven’t made too much with the new units, but I’m not giving up easily. If Google is taking the time to roll out new offerings, it’s because of fundamental shifts in how the perceive the market.

Video will not be easy for me to monetize, but I can’t ignore it. Every day the overall market for video increases, so none of us should want to be left out of the equation. The Ads for Mobile make complete sense. More people are accessing the internet each day via tiny monitors attached to their phones or gaming consoles. They need small sites with small text ads. Making your website mobile and offering mobile ads is relatively obvious.

But I think the big area where the cash will reside is with Google Referrals, which are basically just Affiliate ads in the CPA tradition. Advertisers love these types of ads because they don’t pay unless the visitor performs a specific action like signing up for something or buying something. But they can also be good for publishers because they can be very specifically targeted and they do tend to pay good.

Since these options are new, it will take time to experiment with them to get just the right mix for your website. So get started now! There’s no reason not to, and you might just end up making extra money for your efforts.
