Conspiracy Nuts Go After Google - Claim Alternative Media Websites Being Supressed

Here’s a comical rant that was published on an alternative media website called “Prison Planet”. The title of the post is 100% Proof Google Is Keeping Alternative Media Sites Down. Great title, and absolutely comical when you consider the debunking and smackdown I’m about to lay down on them. The proof of the Google conspiracy is outlined so:
There is a simple way to check on Google how many other websites are linking to your website. You go to Google and type in the word link: before the web address, for example;
link:www.theultimateconspiracy.com
Now here is where the proof is that Google has implemented some kind of script that is giving all the alternative media sites less that 1/4th of the Link Relevance that they deserve.
If you go to Google and simply type in www.yourwebsite.com you will find the REAL number of sites that have a link back to your website. This does not mean that the sites are being added to the Link Relevance, it only shows that they have the link on their website.
The author makes a grave error right off the bat. Since he’s completely ignorant of how search engines work, he assumes that the link: operand and a plain search for www.yourdomain.com will turn up the same results. This, of course, is nowhere near the truth. It’s a well known fact that the Google link command does not return all of your backlinks. In fact, it returns only a small portion, a random sample if you will. Here’s a quote by Google employee Adam Lasnik that explains how it works:
JTB’s right. We currently show a sampling of backlinks via our link: operator. Don’t despair: our system becomes internally aware of pretty much all links to sites fairly quickly :).
The link command is not designed to show all of a website’s backlinks, and it certainly has nothing to do with “link relevance” as the article claims.
When you run the example search across almost any website, regardless of political bias, you will see the exact same results. In fact, let’s take a look at the results for www.whitehouse.gov
link:www.whitehouse.gov - 58,800 links
www.whitehouse.gov - 1,620,000 million! This is 110% per cent proof that George W. Bush is being censored by the guys at Google! At least it is, based on this logic.
The list goes on and on. Even two minutes of “research” would have turned up the fact that this doesn’t only happen to “alternative media” websites.
This should have ANY webmaster up in arms. Blatant censorship being implemented to keep the alternative media down and promote the Neo-Con Draconian agendas.
Not all webmasters. Only the stupid and uninformed ones, really.
Did Google not think that somebody would figure this out eventually?
Did they not think that this very noticeable censorship would go unchecked forever?
They had no idea a genius was out there, waiting to pounce on them and expose them. LOL.
I urge ALL Webmasters, Alternative Media Users, and anybody who cares about how sites are indexed on Google to contact them en mass and state your dissatisfaction about suppressing “Link Relevance”.
I won’t. Because you’re wrong.
Nothing like beating the competition by eliminating them, right Google?
Huh? That means Google would be suppressing other search engines, doesn’t it? I have to say, this is a sad attempt at muckraking. As many issues as I have with Google, this is not one of them. The fact that they only show a portion of a website’s backlinks is hardly proof of a conspiracy. In fact, this has been the case for many, many years, and even a modicum of research and an attempt at debunking facts would have turned this up almost instantly. It’s amazing the author didn’t even try one search that might show his hypothesis was incorrect. Or maybe he did, and just figured it would be more sensationalistic this way.
What do you think of this claim of Google censorship?
