Google Unlikely To Increase Rate Of PageRank Toolbar Exports
August 10, 2007 – 7:54 amAccording to Adam Lasnik, Google is not looking to increase the rate at which they export Toolbar PageRank values.
A few thoughts…
First, we’re unlikely to increase the rate at which we update PR on the toolbar… we don’t want folks scrambling, say, daily to check all their pages in the toolbar.
I hate to say it, but it has nothing to do with people “scrambling” to look at values that are now 100+ days out of date. It means the Toolbar data is completely obsolete and definitely mis-leading. The only people who are benefiting from the current laziness on Google’s part are those who purchase expired domains with higher PR and sell links to unsuspecting newbies.
In a sense, this comment seems relatively flippant concerning how seriously most webmasters take their PageRank. And when I say “most” I mean “not me”. I uninstalled by Toolbar two years ago and never looked back. I’d rather have no info than wrong or outdated info.
Do you pay attention to the Toolbar? What do you think of Adam Lasnik’s comments?

I love the idea of uninstalling the PageRank Toolbar. I am tired of letting Google influence the way I think about websites–yours and mine.
I have an old site, formerly a 5, now a zero. When the page rank disappeared, I was upset. As long as the site sells, who cares about page rank?
I’d rather not know what Google thinks, especially 100 days ago.
However, if you play the game of natural searches, you need to know.
Joy in technology!

Jeanette,
The big problem I see is that it’s now even more than 100 days out of date. It’s so out of date, it’s hard to take it seriously. And if Google cared, they could update a lot faster than that.

I wonder what their investors/stockholders think when the read articles like this? One would think that Google has to be professional in all their venues, including “Page Rank” updates. Slow maintenance will not help their reputation, stock, or others view of Google’s professionalism.

I prefer the google search field on the google toolbar, than the generic search field (with google) on the standard toolbar of IEv7 - because it has a GO button. The generic search I seem to have to put my mouse in the field and hit Enter to get results, and it is annoying. So, I’ll probably not uninstall the google toolbar. Besides .. with my toolbar view - even in full screen size, all I see is the google search, the PR button and the settings (it fits nice across the screen).
?? Is it really outdated? Now that I check, all my sites seem to be in line with, say .. Live PR sites like http://livepr.raketforskning.com/ etc.

It is outdated. It’s just that the outdated values at LivePR equal the outdated values in the Toolbar. At least it’s consistent!
