In the last few months, it’s safe to say that Google has made a ton of changes to the way they used to rank pages. They’ve been cranking out patents for such items as Document ranking based on inception dates, as well as tracking the dates that links come and go from websites. They’ve announced all kinds of changes to their Adwords and Adsense programs, going after many of the methods that used to be successful for almost anyone.

Group-Think seems to be dying off

All you have to do is take a look around at the “popular SEO forums” to realize most are in the death-throws, and few have any status or popularity left. It seemed inevitable in a sense. For a field like SEO, which involves extreme competitiveness, keeping your strategies close to the vest is always a good idea.

Furthermore, many SEOs are recalcitrant link spammers, who, since they only have a hammer, are always looking for nails. To them, nailing your website for a link is always a best practice. In the end, you spend all your time talking to people who are merely there to try and send a link back to themselves. It’s hard to get excited about when you look at it for multiple years.

Of course the SEO talking heads will return with a buzz-phrase. They always do because their meager incomes depend on it.

Which SEO buzz-phrase is your current favorite?

  2. Darren,

I’m not sure what my favorite SEO buzz phrase is But I’m hearing a lot of people talking about the term “The Google Slap”.

Can you tell me what that term means or what it is?

    Bill

This is something someone sent me:
Like many of you I’ve also been badly affected by the recent Google ‘Slap’.

I’ve just published a new article, ‘Slapping Back’ where I use one of my websites as a case study. I show you how it was affected by the recent Google ‘Slap’. I also show you what I’ve done to get back in the game.

  3. Bill, that’s one I haven’t heard about. I’ve been goofing off for a few weeks in the Sun so I probably missed it.
