Most SEO Blogs Don’t Encourage Comments

I try and read new SEO blogs nearly every day, and I can honestly say, SEO blogs are about the weakest blogs in any category I monitor in terms of quality of content and communications. The SEOs seem to be very “full of themselves” and it comes across in how they manage blogs.
You have to be insane, or seriously missing the point of blogs, to discourage comments
I mean I think you’ve really got it wrong if you make it hard for people to comment in your blog. I really only became interested in blogging in 2006, but it’s not like it’s hard to understand the culture of blogging. Blogger has always been about trying to encourage communication. Much of your best content in your blog will come from commenters. Plus it’s a way to encourage further discussion on a related topic.
Now I’ve noticed a number of SEO blogs that have removed the URL field altogether. They will let you comment, but they won’t allow the taint of your URL to even disgrace their comments section (even with a link-condom in snuggly in place). Are you SEO blog commenters really that skanky? I know many of you are link-sluts, but are you diseased? Just kidding!
The longer I’ve hung around the periphery of the SEO industry (which is better than actually being in it, IMHO), I’ve become aware of how influenced the practioners are by “group-think”. For that reason I try to avoid as much of the common wisdom as possible.
What do you think of blogs with closed comments?

I think that any blog who disables the comments section really misses out what blogging is all about.
Unlike traditional websites, blogs are about the interaction and often, I’ve found that the real insights are contained in the comments section and the post itself serving as a focal point

I know what you mean. What’s the point of blogging and not allowing comments? it takes the fun right out of it!

I’m with you Ohad. It just seems more like monologue then a dialogue with the comments disabled.

Darren, you seem like a nice guy but I think you missed the major reason why SEO blogs have comments disabled: there’s nothing worse to most people on here than to be told how dumb they are.)
As far as URLs…well…that I can’t answer, other than because they don’t want others promoting on their blogs.
