If you’ve been dealing with Google Adsense for any period of time, you might occassionally go through dry periods. Don’t let these times make you pull out your hair and give up. This is when you need to spring into action, and make the necessary changes to improve your revenues drastically.

Determine what caused your drop in revenues in the first place

I can give you a big clue here: it’s usually a drop in traffic that precipitates a decline in revenue. This isn’t always true, but this is where you start your search. In the event of a really bad update, you’ll soon discover the source of the missing revenue. If your traffic is the same, take a look at targeting.

Sometimes Google’s targeting goes on vacation

This can happen even to an established website. If this is the trouble, you can try tweaking your on-page optimization to see what happens. Add some text, tweak a meta, etc. If this brings it back, good.

If you still struggle, you can try adding additional content that targets higher paying phrases. This is not an easy option, but you might have to think of adding content anyway. Content does have a way of deteriorating over time. Take a look at Google Trends to see if your phrase is still coveted, or if the topic has fallen off in popularity.

No matter what, keep on tweaking to see if you can come up with a solution. It only hurts you if you don’t.
