Okay, what’s the easiest way to market a website? I haven’t tried all the ways possible, so I can’t say for sure, but I can say that the easiest website to market, in general, is one that is extremely fit for its’ purpose. If you construct a single purpose website that does something, your marketing task is simplified enormously, especially if your website does something which gets people excited. If they get excited enough to link to you and to promote your website to others, it’s enormously more easy to generate traffic than if you have to do it all on your own.

Websites that are fit for their intended purpose attract natural attention

Useful websites (or even useful pages on websites) garner more than their fair share of attention, because people enjoy using them so much. Since they love using the website, they refer it to others, and the trend continues. As times goes on, this translates into an avalanche of traffic, from both new visitors and old alike.

What’s an example of a website that was very fit for its’ purpose?

YouTube springs to mind as an obvious example. The purpose of the website was to “share video”, which was accomplished through a simple mechanism. As time went on, more and more people “shared video” and the website itself became a useful archive of video. The users promoted the website because they found it so useful.

How does it work?

1) People visit the website to “share video”
2) They tell a friend about the shared video
3) That person becomes aware, tells another…etc
4) The content on the website itself is sufficient to generate visiting and search

Chances are, you and I will probably not come up with the next YouTube, but with a bit of effort, you can invent a number of “single purpose” websites thare extremely fit and earn great revenue. This is the closest you’ll ever come to “set it and forget it” type marketing with a website.
