Yahoo Offers Mobile Search Software To Consumers

Yahoo has been coming out with more and more innovative search offerings lately, and their recent announcement about mobile search was no exception. Yahoo officials say the plan to offer software that mobile phone users will download themselves. The product will be introduced today as part of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Yahoo is seeking to outpace arch rival Google Inc., which dominates the market for computer Web-search, by being the fastest to win over consumers to its mobile phone Web search and related advertising system, The Journal said. Yahoo is poised to unveil expanded partnerships with handset makers Motorola Inc., Nokia Oyj, Samsung Electronics Co. and Research In Motion Ltd. to include the new software on some of their phones, the report said.

Mobile search promises to loom large over the entire search landscape as more and more convergent phones emerge which offer connectivity for mobile users. The product being introduced today promises to be very interesting.
