Unstable Google Index Proving Interesting

The latest Google results are interesting. I see a ton of new pages appearing for many search terms I look after. Honestly, the quality of many of the pages is pretty low, and the tactics used to gain the rankings are nothing new. Determining exactly what make up great search engine results is a matter of opinion, and anyone who does SEO is too biased to make accurate results, but the type of page that Google now seem to favor is interesting to me.

The idea of Topic Sensitive PageRank is one that’s brought up every now and again, and might hold some merit. I don’t think it’s a universal law, or anything, but there is some reason to think TSPR is being used to some degree. As with anything about Google, it’s tought to say. Their complete secrecy on the actual workings of their algo makes it tough to do anything but to observe and analyze.

One terms that I’ve seen shift downward this week, I think part of the issue is that a number of new pages have been added to Google’s index. Perhaps they’ve “gotten out of the Sandbox” or “developed TrustRank”, or whatever catch-phrase works to describe what happened. I’m not sure of the reasons, but these new pages mean that some of my keyphrases have gone down. Anytime you have more competition from well-optimized pages, this can happen. But when the dust settles, the cream should rise to the top again.

Are you seeing any changes?
