Google Is The Only Search Engine Gaining Market Share

That is the sad but true case as revealed by InformationWeek. They took a look at historical data released by Comscore and found out the startling fact that Google is gaining marketshare, while Yahoo and MSN aren’t. This certainly correlates with what I see in my log files, as I’m sure it does with countless others.
Over the course of a year, Google has been showing steady growth, while Microsoft, Time Warner, and Yahoo all declined. Since October 2005, Google’s share of the U.S. search market has risen by 6.4 percentage points, climbing steadily from 39% to 45.4%. Microsoft’s and Yahoo’s share of the market fell during this period by 2.9 and 1 percentage points respectively.
The old saying is “If you build a better mousetrap, people will beat a path to your door.” The numbers clearly show that the large majority of people (myself included) still think of Google as the “best search engine”, and use it over the other one. MSN and Yahoo have seemed almost stalled in their quest to battle the Big G, and new studies show they still have a lot of work to do.

I have in the past used Google for the majority of my queries but lately with all
the things they do such as (Supplemental Result) so your website pages are
not listed I have started to use MSN.
Darren do you know what the Google Supplemental Result Index is and how to
fix your website pages so they are not in it? I don’t and Google has put a lot of
my pages in the Google Supplemental Results Index. Why not do a Blog about
the Google Supplemental Results Index.

Neh… I have long switched to YAHOO due to their never ending innovations. I also think YAHOO has a more superior indexing system based on the contains of the website instead of some shady criteria that turns up merchant sites most of the time.

It is sad, considering how much market share Google already has, how the quality of their search results has declined, and how poorly they treat their advertisers.

Indeed. Sucking hard never hurts big companies for some reason, does it? And they’re big and fast-growing, so that makes them everybody’s favorite.
