This is a question we’ve been touching on a bit lately, and it’s one that is very much in need of an answer, especially if you plan on being an internet marketer who ranks well in the organic SERPs. If you plan on building a website for long-term success, chances are you’ll need to make it a leader in its’ field, and you’ll have to continously update. Look around and many of your favorite sites. They aren’t the type of places that update once every six months, are they?
You have many requirements to build a high-quality content websites:
1) Your website content must be narrow
2) Your website content must be broad
3) Your website content must be comprehensive
4) Your website content must be authoritative
5) Your website content must be fresh
Okay, if this is already beginning to sound like a lot of work, that’s because IT IS a ton of work. In order to be a true leader in almost any niche on the internet, the content will need to be so good that it really STANDS out from the normal crap you see being processed daily.
What are some of the things you can do make your content “high quality”?
Research. Before the internet came along, most people were expected to actually do a ton of research to ensure the accuracy of their writing. In fact, you’d be laughed off the face of the Earth if you didn’t. You know what? It’s still a great idea to research your pieces thoroughly, unless you really are expert enough on the subject to put up a great presentation off the top of your head.
If your website is new, and your credibility is in short supply, AND your topic is complex, you’ll need to “stand on the shoulder of giants” in order to catapult yourself to the top. You’ll do this by referencing the main works of the experts in your field.
Freshness means you’re an expert to a degree.
Just adding content continously should mean that you’re an expert in your field. If you sort through many RSS feeds daily, and post up fresh information that’s actually interesting to your readers, you’ll end up being a place people come FIRST to see what’s going on. If you don’t stay fresh, or your let your thinking become outdated, you will be quickly be forgotten by people who are looking for cutting egde information.
Make sure to be as comprehensive as you can be in covering a topic
You can do this by building a glossary, adding tools, or just collecting tons of articles about your given subject. If you update often, and link to your old archived material, you’ll find you have a steady supply of readers. The more vast you can make your website in its’ coverage of the subject, the more likely you are to be considered an authoritative website, which should also help you garner incoming links quickly.
If you have a truly tremendous collection of high quality content, your link building chores should be a snap.
