New Website Promotes Search Privacy Standard

We’ve talked to
Russ Jones of Virante before, and now he’s back with another innovative idea, which should be interesting to readers for two reasons.
1) The new website he’s promoting is #Privacy which is dedicated to a subject that isn’t being explored by too many: privacy options for people using search engines
2) The second reason this should be interesting, is because it’s a great example of a viral marketing campaign, because it organizes grassroots support for a fairly worthy cause
The idea behind #Privacy is sound:
“Pound Privacy” is a campaign to create the first standard for search engine query privacy. The implementation is fairly straightforward: If you append the phrase “#privacy” at the end of a query on any search engine or site search, your query should not be tracked by IP or cookie, and should not be made public in keyword tools. It is that simple.
An easy to understand program that everyone can get behind. You’ll notice to the right hand column you’ll see “Sponsors: The entire #privacy campaign is generously funded, staffed, and marketed by Virante, Inc.” This is a great way to build a ton of free links into a website that then promotes the main search marketing website. Nice work by Russ and Virante on a clean idea that’s being marketed in a simple manner.
