Common SEO Idiocy

I’ve been “learning” about SEO online for several years, and I’m noticing that almost all subjects are repeated in a looping fashion. In fact, if you read most of the SEO Forums, you’ll also see that the same conversations simultaneously occur.

Okay, let’s cover the most basic one of all today.

“Has there been a PageRank update?”

Why is this question asked? Fool, you can look yourself! Why do people need an “expert” to tell them whether their Green Bar has changed or not. Look at it. Is it different? Same goes for backlinks.

Alright people, I don’t mean to get rough on you here, but you can actually check yourself whether Google has updated. Here’s how:

1) Go to the Google Search Engine and Type link:directory.sootle.com (replace with your domain name chief)

2) Look at the lil green bar in your Pagerank Toolbar.

You can look for any changes in the numbers. If the numbers are different than they used to be, then you won’t need to ask anyone else if there was an update. There was :)

See how simple it really is. You don’t need anyone else to confirm an update at all. Just wait until the numbers change, and you’ll know. Keep in mind, many of the “shouted out” updates never actually get off the ground. Learning to rely on your own judgment is one of the most important things for you to learn in search marketing, so you may as well get into the habit early.
