Google SERPS seriously shuffling

Even more changes than usual seem to be going on in the Google search index in the last 24 to 48 hours. One of my “dead sites” from 6/27/2006 is starting to somewhat come alive. It’s got a heartbeat, but it’s still a long way from checking out of the hospital. It’s strange to watch the site “come back”. This is a website that usually ranks for around 400 keyword phrases, so it’s quite noticable to watch how it operates.

Some of my longest running number one phrases are now back up to Top 30s. Why does this happen? I’m pretty sure it’s all related to PageRank. More and more people attempt to ignore the PageRank formula, but it’s the only thing ever mentioned by Google employees as affecting results.

There’s not much you can do when you go in the tank like this, from my experience. The “supplemental pages” don’t change until whatever event at Google occurs. All you can really do is “ride out the storm” and wait for better days.

Maybe those better days are coming for victims of 6/27/2006 soon. I hope so.

  2. I was wondering if its really true that the NETA tags need to be a certain length in characters and if your site has to many keywords it can hurt you more than it can help. Just asking. Thanks

  3. Hi Scott and welcome,

I personally have dumped the “Meta Title” and “Meta Description” tag. It was only used by Yahoo from what I can tell anyway. I suggest not worrying about it.

Keyword stuffing can hurt for a few reasons. 1) It’s really bad for human visitors and 2) there might be a penalty if you have too much density.
