In what might be a sign of things to come, MTV and Google are teaming up to introduce video ads.

The video programming and advertising will be available directly to Google’s extensive AdSense network that offers targeted text and image ads to its network of websites and blogs. Clips from MTV Networks’ kids and family, music and entertainment programming will also be available to consumers on an ad-supported basis on sites outside MTVN’s proprietary sites.
The program starts on 8/24/2006 and last for a month. I know because I’ve been invited by email to participate as of today. The ad units are a different size than any of the current ones, so there’s no question MTV is going for branding.
This is definitely the sign of things to come, IMHO. As Google gets out there and sells to the bigger companies, they can customize branding campaigns like this one. I’ll report more when the time comes, the TOS allowing.

It sounds like it will be an interesting pilot.
I think the future holds more exclusive deals between G and large companies.
They just inked a deal with with Myspace and Fox so it will be interesting to see what happens. I’m guessing G is trying to make a few inroads in the social networking arena..
