If you want it done right, you need to do it yourself
July 31, 2006 – 5:55 amThis is something I’ve learned on the internet. I’ve tried various methods of bringing in other people to collaborate with me:
1) outsourcing
2) collaboration
3) volunteerism
None of them have worked for me. I find out that I’m always better working by myself. Why? Because I’ve rarely met anyone who’s honestly willing to put in the same type of efforts as me. I assume there are plenty of people in the same boat as me, and they just quietly work.
To me, it’s tough to build an online business, because of the remoteness of people. It’s expensive to hire employees off-line, but there are many benefits to it. One of them is accountability. At least with employees that come into your office you can keep an eye on them, communicate with them, and even help train them on the job.
With internet helpers, you don’t have much to go on, except what you hear through email. I’m sure there’s no shortage of decent partnerships that can be formed online, I just haven’t found much merit in the idea so far.
