Does this thing end? A beta test done on an unsuspecting populace that must me measure in terms of years or months, and not days or weeks. This thing has been Googol hours nows. For people with the famous 301 canonicals, no real reports of success are coming in.
Supplemental problems clearing up?
I had one site that suffered from a supplemental problem for 2 weeks of March, and that is fixed as of now, so I’m happy for that. Google is back up to 19% of referrers as pages are returned to the indexes. But it’s getting hard to believe how some of these sites suffer. The supplemental index almost reminds me of the Catholic idea of “a permanent record”. Once you’ve made a web-page, it doesn’t matter what you do next. Google will always have a copy of your permanent record and they’ll always punish your for it.
I know Google is always adding storage, so I imagine never destroying any data is their ultimate goal. This can be useful in a ton of ways, but not when it comes to pages you deleted from your own server. If the webmaster says ‘404′, believe them!
