Okay, let’s face it, if you’re an even remotely successful web marketer, not only are you fully aware of the importance of link popularity, I’m confident you’re already exploring many ways to get more incoming links. Let’s take a look at ten great ways right now:

10 Ways to get more incoming links to your website

1) Make a website worthy of being linked to. If you build it, and by “it” I mean a high quality it, then they will surely come. If you add unique content to the internet, people will find it and link to it.

2) Trade a link. Okay, it’s not sophisticated, but you’d be amazed how well many people still do with this time-tested crowd favorite. Look for links that aren’t re-directed, and look for links that can also offer direct traffic.

3) Give something away. Give away the use of a free web tool you create. Something that’s useful will attract links easily.

4) Buy links. Buying popularity worked for the Kennedy’s and it can work for you.

5) Submit to DMOZ. Okay, I’m just kidding about that one. Instead submit to any of the so-called second tier directories which offer express submissions and you’ll actually get a link in this lifetime.

6) Post at related forums and become an expert. Don’t be a spammy butt-face, but actually participate in the conversations and you’ll meet webmasters of related websites who can help you with your website promotions. Act like a link junkie in need of his next whiff of link juice and you’ll end up out on the street, damaging your website reputation in the process.

7) Make comments in related weblogs. Oh, and I don’t mean make comments in 1,000,000,000 weblogs that you find by probing IP ranges. Rather I mean make high quality posts in high quality blogs which are related to your website.

8) Write expert articles. Do this only if you are actually an expert. Sure it’s easy to make up expert status on the Internet, but it’s just not right. Submit your articles to related websites in exchange for a backlink.

9) Spam Wikipedia. Uhhh, I mean place a pertinent resource (one of yours of course) into a high ranking Wikipedia page. Watch out for the patrols and keep your head down, etc. This will work best if your website is really a great resource.

10) Ask for one. If you see a website whose readership would be greatly enhanced by adding a link to your website, then it’s your obligation as someone who wants the internet to be a better place to notify the webmaster and tell him about your website. It can’t hurt to ask, and it might even end up helping in the end.

Make sure to use all of these techniques, and more, when looking to increase your link popularity. Good luck.
