Intended audience for your blog

I thought about this today, and didn’t come up with a clear answer. I’ve been a bit of an uncommited blogger for a number of months now, and part of the reason why is because I can’t really visualize who my intended audience is.
Since I can’t visualize who my intended audience is, I have a tough time even maintaining the blog. I’m sure I can’t be alone in that. I don’t generally have a laziness problem, and I am usually very self-motivated, so I’m sure I would blog if I could conceive of my audience. Since I don’t know who I’m trying to reach, I don’t really have a way to craft a message for them.
I’m confident that successful bloggers have to overcome a similar lack of focus if they’re to excel. Blogging on a very narrow subject is probably best, because you have the greatest chance of being authoritative. I haven’t done much work on my blog, but I’m more than willing to dig a bit deeper. Once I’ve identified my target audience, I’m sure I’ll be able to focus my writing much better. Until then, I bid adieu.
