Targeted traffic pays off for internet marketers

Newbies to the internet marketing game always think in terms of traffic. It’s understandable, and I can be honest and say I was the same way. If you’re brand new to internet marketing, you have usually no traffic at all at your website, so just about any visitor seems to be much greater than what you have. But after years of experiencing what bulk, untargeted “traffic” does for you, you begin to lose the taste and you start looking for people who are actually interested in what your website is about and who may actually purchase your products.
Traffic that doesn’t buy doesn’t do anyone any good.
It’s a sad fact, but it’s true. If the traffic that comes to your website is untargeted, the chance of them buying a product or service from your website, or that of one of your sponsors, is low. This will result in low ECPM. If your visitors are not matching your content, you have a fundamental problem that needs immediate adjustment. Improving the quality of your website is one quick way to ensure that search engines match visitors with pages.
Define your website, and define the niche space you operate in.
If your website is ill-defined, it will be hard for it to grow. People need clarity when visiting websites, especially if they’re geared towards product placement. The more specific the overall theme of your site is, the better your chances for success. Lot’s of good, clean, original content that is tightly focused on your websites main theme will work well when it comes to rankings and for customer conversions.
The next time someone offers you “traffic”, make sure to get all the details of what you’re actually buying, and take a good hard look at what that type of traffic can for your website. A smaller investment in link-building would probably go much further in aiding your cause.
